David Bennett (Senior) started his trade as a flesher and set up his first business in Dunning in Perthshire around 1901.

He moved to 86 High Street, Dunblane in 1928, next door to the current shop, where he enjoyed a lucrative trade as can be seen by the photograph (right).

Note the chickens hanging unrefrigerated in the window !

His son, David Bennett (Junior) returned from London, where he worked as a Manager in Smithfield Market, to run the business.

He moved the shop to 41 High Street, where the premises was bigger.
With continually improving trade, he acquired the present premises from Browns, the bakers, at 78-84 High Street in the 1960's.

There he invested heavily in the restructure of the building, demolishing the old bakery building at the back, building new preparation and storage areas and totally updating the shop.

David Bennett who was extremely popular within the High Street and the Golf Club, sadly passed away in 1965.

Managers were employed to run the shop until 2001, when Graham Fleming, great grandson of the original David Bennett took over and continues this tradition to the present day.

There is even an article in the Stirling Journal and Advertiser about this wonderful new, modern way of shopping when the shop opened in 1963.
